I have some things to share!

I feel like I have been on a journey to this page, this blog, since I was a young girl. I remember a feeling of unbearable aloneness, late one night after everyone in my family was quietly sleeping. I crept out of my bed, down the hall into the living of our home in a remote prairie town in Saskatchewan, Canada. I wanted to watch the wonder of lightning light up the awesome summer storm in front of me. At the time, my mom was quite ill. My dad was doing his best to do and be everything his wife and four children needed, stoically coping with relentless, overwhelming responsibility. I was one of four small children, and each of us that evening had been feeling a little lost, insecure and lonely. On this night, looking out the window with unshed tears trapped in my eyes, I remember feeling the deep, mysterious pain of my family seep into my soul. I remember almost folding in half with despair yet feeling undeniably drawn to the raw energy of the storm. As I watched the brilliant lightning light up the skies that evening, something lit up within me. I got this idea and suddenly I felt as charged as the electrical storm before me. Some part of my desperate heart just suddenly knew that there just simply had to be more to life than the emptiness, pain, and sadness I was feeling at that moment. There just had to be some kind of point to all of this, for being alive, and with an uncommon fierceness, I decided right then and there that I would discover it. Beginning the very next day, I deliberately set out to find it. I searched in my neighborhood, in my friends, in my teachers, and later in books, moments, experiences, mentors, seminars, travel, and hours of intentional reflection. I have spent a lifetime searching for that one thing that would make all the difference. I learned, of course, that it is actually not one thing. It is an endless, wondrous, crystal-like compilation of things: ideas, thoughts, presence, practices, perspectives, and habits that bounce and reflect off one another like the enchanting, precise, mesmerizing internal sparkle of a well-cut diamond.

Personal Growth and Happiness Today

The fascinating and wonderful thing about personal growth today is that because of neuroscience and positive psychology, we are able to collect tools for happiness in a steadfast and intentional manner. It does not need to be the haphazard, hopeful, whimsical journey we had to travel in the past. Science and academia today are able to give our personal quests evidence-based form, direction and results. One slight shift here, one idea there, or one pivotal realization will consistently add up over time to a happier, healthier, more successful life. We can honestly have confidence in the practices we adopt as numerous strategies have been scientifically proven to create satisfying personal well-being. This positive place of personal health and well-being is documented convincingly to precede our goals, dreams, and ultimate success. Over time, consistently prioritizing my personal growth, I have been able to create a vibrant, expansive life; one that the yearning, young girl behind the prairie window could never have possibly imagined.

My Goal:

In this blog, I want to share with you, the things I have learned and collected over the years that now make my life a happier, optimistic journey. Ideally, I would love to help you gain what I have learned a little earlier and easier, to shift the trajectory of your life towards a life you truly love. I wish to share the very tools that make my days and moments peaceful, fulfilling, and joyful; the tools I wished I had known and put into practice for myself several decades ago!

Life can be exceptionally hard at times, and I have experienced moments when I just didn't know how I was going to get through the day, let alone the next one! Although I did make it through every one of those days, I know it could have been so much easier. In fact, it could have even been wildly different! I wonder at times, if, for example, I had known about the power of meditation, where the critical voice inside my head came from, or if I had given up pleasing everyone a little sooner - how different things would have turned out. Any and all of the ideas, tools, habits, shifts, or experiences that have made me think: "Well, that would have been good to know!" will be making their way to this blog over time.

There is nothing truly remarkable or special about me except that I have always wanted to find a way to make this life easier, and more meaningful in some way. I have this crazy inner drive to learn and experience life as deeply as I can, explore the full range of being human, and make sense of as many crazy things in this life as possible. I love to assess concepts, experiences, and feelings; bore into them to discover the simple core truth and learn, share, and then, if I am lucky, teach. My wish is that you will find at least one tiny thing somewhere in this blog that amplifies your life and somehow makes your days more joyful and fulfilling.

My Wish:

I want to inspire transformation by expanding the way you think, shifting how you move through your days, and realigning your neurology to help you develop strength, resilience, and experience deeply satisfying personal well-being. I want you to journey within, connect with your core and express your true self bravely and unapologetically in the world. Your set of tools and techniques will be unique, and by being true to yourself, you will create your own authentic path and future. I want you to make your goals and dreams come true. I want you to experience joy in the toughest of times; even in a pandemic.
